TDI HELITROX DIVER
The TDI Helitrox Diver Course delves into the principles, techniques, and protocols for orchestrating staged decompression dives using helium in the breathing mixture to mitigate the effects of inert gas narcosis.
Course Overview:
The TDI Helitrox Diver Course instructs divers on the planning and execution of staged decompression dives, with a maximum depth of 45 meters/150 feet. It covers common equipment requirements, gear setup, and decompression techniques. Students are allowed to utilize enriched air nitrox and helium mixes with helium content up to 35%, and up to 100% oxygen for decompression diving. This course can be taken independently or alongside TDI Advanced Nitrox, depending on the instructor's discretion.
Who Should Take This Course:
-
Individuals certified as Advanced Divers or Intro to Tech Divers seeking to broaden their understanding of decompression theory and helitrox diving techniques.
-
Those looking to extend their bottom time and advance their technical diving education.
Course Prerequisites:
-
Minimum age of 18
-
Certification as an SDI Advanced Diver (with Deep specialty) or TDI Intro to Tech Diver, or equivalent
-
Certified as a TDI Advanced Nitrox Diver (unless concurrently taught)
-
Proof of 50 logged dives
Course Content:
The curriculum includes decompression dive planning covering gas requirements, limitations of oxygen, nitrogen, and helium, gas choice for decompression, and emergency planning. It also explores the properties of helium as a breathing gas, its effects on narcosis, respiration, and insulation, as well as decompression diving procedures, equipment selection, stress management, gas switching, team communication, emergency procedures, and equipment considerations.
Course Benefits:
-
Capability to conduct decompression dives independently using helium and/or nitrox mixtures within specified safety parameters.
-
Qualification to enroll in further courses such as TDI Extended Range, TDI Advanced Wreck, and TDI Trimix.
Minimum Requirements:
Completion of the TDI Helitrox Diver Course written examination with a passing score of 80%, followed by 100% remediation by the instructor. Safely and efficiently fulfill all open water requirements and demonstrate prudent judgment in dive planning and execution.
